About Ellen Krechel
I was born in 1949 and grew up in small towns north west of Pittsburgh PA. After graduating from Seneca Valley High School in Harmony PA, I attended and graduated from Davis and Elkins College with a Bachelor of Art’s degree in Psychology.
I married my college sweetheart Glenn Krechel and moved to Hunterdon County New Jersey where I taught special education for a year at The Hunterdon State School for the Mentally Disabled and attended master level courses at Trenton State University. In 1974 our first child, a daughter, was born 6 weeks prematurely. My experiences as a stay at home mom and breastfeeding led me to become a La Leche League leader in 1976. Our second child, a son, was born that same year followed 3 ½ years later by my youngest son. As my children grew I developed a pre school play group with a friend who had a MA in early childhood education. I drove a school bus and delivered auto parts for our NAPA business while my children were attending school.
In 1996 I entered Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem PA where I achieved my Master of Arts Degree in Pastoral Counseling in 1998. While there I was employed as an outreach coordinator for August House a Center for Survivors of sexual assault and abuse. After graduation I worked for Florence Child Guidance in Allentown PA and Youth Advocacy in
Bethlehem PA as a counselor.
In 1999 my husband and I moved to Pawleys Island, SC and I became a School Based Mental Health Counselor for Waccamaw Center for Mental Health for the following 14 ½ years. In June 2005, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of South Carolina.
I am currently rostered with MUSC Project Best Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
I also have training in Triple P Positive Parenting.
Now, as a counselor with Southeast Maternal Medical, I am broadening my knowledge in the area of antepartum and postpartum mood disorders and postpartum adjustment disorder along with, infant and early childhood mental health issues.
